☆☆☆☆☆ Masterpiece
Les Triplettes de Belleville - The Triplets of Belleville (2003) is a dark, visionary comedic masterpiece that defies verbal characterization.
Directed by Sylvain Chomet.
Starring Béatrice Bonifassi, Michel Robin and Charles Linton among others.
Sylvain creates a mad, fun and darkly ironic animation about life. There is almost no dialogue in this film and yet every macabre nuance of life's unjust grey areas scream out. Sinister unseen forces wreck havoc on our life's hard work and talent. Age and time add to the calamity that slowly engulfs us. Chomet takes all of life's gloom, doom and sinister mischief and crafts a humorous and entertaining film that gives a weird sense of hope that in the end all will be ok.
Chomet's genius is showcased in the scene below. No words are needed to propel the story forward. The loving mother gets a sense of purpose, direction and inspiration for her and her child's future from her photo album.
